History
The suburb is named after Right Honourable Sir Edmund Barton (1849-1920) who was Australia’s first Prime Minister who held office from 1901 to 1903. Sir Edmund was a Barrister and Member of the New South Wales Parliament and one of the leading workers for Federation, serving on the Committee which prepared the draft for the Constitution. He resigned from Parliament in 1903 to become the Senior Puisne Judge of the newly constituted High Court of Australia.
