Named after Herbert Vere Evatt (1894-1965) who was a Justice of the High Court of Australia from 1930-40. He was a Member of the House of Representatives from 1940-60, Attorney General and Minister for External Affairs 1941-49, Deputy Prime Minister from 1946-49, President, United Nations General Assembly 1948-49, Leader of the Opposition from 1951-60 and Chief Justice of New South Wales from 1960-62.
