History

O'Connor was named after Richard Edward O’Connor (1851-1912) who was a Legislator, Federalist and one of the Founders of the Constitution. He was a member of the Drafting Committee at the 1897-98 Federal Convention which prepared the Federation Bill which, with some amendments, became the Constitution. Richard O’Connor was elected as a Senator for New South Wales in 1901 and was Judge of the High Court of Australia in 1903.
