History
Bruce was gazetted as a suburb name in 1968 and commemorates the achievements of Viscount Bruce of Melbourne PC, CH, MC (Stanley Melbourne Bruce 1883-1967). From 1923 until 1929 he was Australia's Prime Minister. In 1933 for a period of thirteen years he carried out the duties of Commissioner for Australian in London. On his return to Australia in 1951 he was appointed Chancellor of the Australian National University and carried out those duties for the next ten years. Viscount Bruce was also given recognition in 1947 for his representation of Australia in the War Cabinet.
The suburb name "Bruce" was gazetted on 1 January 1968
