History
Oxley was named after John Joseph William Molesworth Oxley (1783-1828) who was a Explorer and Surveyor-General of New South Wales. He explored a considerable part of the Lachlan and Macquarie Rivers, discovered and named the Castlereagh River, Arbuthnot Range and Liverpool Plains, Hastings River and Port Macquarie. He discovered the Brisbane River in 1823 and was a member of the Legislative Council from 1824 to 1825.
The suburb name "Oxley" was gazetted on 22 March 1982
