Caroline Chisholm was a woman that helped man kind however she could and was a social worker who established a home in Sydney to provide free shelter and employment registry for female immigrants. She travelled extensively arranging employment for immigrants, organised settlement of families and family immigration. She formed the Family Colonisation Loan Society in 1849.
The suburb name "Chisholm" was gazetted on 5 August 1975
