History

The suburb is named after Henry Bournes Higgins (1851-1929). He won a seat of Geelong in 1894 and attended as Member of Federal Convention 1897-1898. Attorney-General in 1904, Justice of the High Court from 1906-29 and was famous for his ruling which established the principle of a basic wage.

The suburb name "Higgins" was gazetted on 6 June 1968
