Scullin was named after James Henry Scullin (1876-1953) who was Prime Minister from 1929 to 1931. James Scullin entered Federal Parliament in 1910. He lost his seat in 1913 and then became Editor of Echo which was a radical Ballarat newspaper. He was then re-elected to Parliament in 1922 and became Prime Minister in 1929, he was then defeated in the 1931 election. He then resigned leadership in 1935.
