Tom Wetherall moved from Sydney to Wollongong in 1974 and entered the Real Estate industry as a Sales Representative in 1979 at the age of 31 and immediately commenced his formal education to become a Licensed Real Estate & Business Agent and Auctioneer. Tom had been previously self-employed since the age of 19 in various businesses in Sydney, however, in 1973 he purchased a hotel business in Wollongong which, because of the potential for further development of the excess land at the hotel, gave rise to his interest in real estate and particularly in real estate development. After graduating as a licensed Real Estate Agent, Tom opened his own agency and was appointed as the exclusive agent for the sale of over 1,000 homesites being developed by the Sheargold Group at Unanderra – this project became known as Cordeaux Heights. Between 1983 and 1999, Tom was retained as both the sales agent and marketing consultant for Cordeaux Heights and other Sheargold Group projects including sylvan Woods at Thirroul, Vista Park at Wongawilli and Darragh Park estate at Figtree where, because of the nature of the prevailing market and site conditions, it was determined as strategic to construct a range of homes to maximize the development potential through development in through an Integrated Development Approval (I.D.A). Subsequent to the success of the Darragh Park IDA, the Sheargold Group acquired land which was partly developed at Kanahooka which came onto the market due to a Mortgagee-in-Possession action. This project was known as “Forest Grove” and has been subsequently completed by the construction of 157 villas and duplex homes in a Community-titled development. During his career, he has personally sold over 1,000 blocks of land at Cordeaux Heights & now shares that experience. In addition to membership of the Estate Agents Co-operative Ltd (EAC) Tom is a member of the Real Estate Institute of NSW, as such, these bodies provide him the opportunity to meet with all levels of the industry both locally and state-wide Approach to Real Estate | After 30 years in the Real Estate & Development industry – all of which has been spent in the Wollongong area – Tom has a great store of knowledge and experience to draw on to bring projects from the conceptual stage through the development feasibility, approvals and funding stages and eventually to the market. His daily involvement in the Real Estate Agency ensures that his market research is both relevant and accurate. And apart from all that – Tom openly admits that he loves his work! Family | Tom loves to spend time with his beautiful wife Marilyn, he has 5 children along with a small tribe of grandchildren who he loves to see and play with whenever possible.
