Every landmark home begins as a collection of ambitious ideas, but it takes a rare alignment of vision and craft to translate those thoughts into a cohesive masterpiece.

For this Deakin residence, appropriately named Icon House, that journey spanned four years of meticulous collaboration between the owners, architects Turco & Associates and builders Status Living.

The result? A home worthy of the prestigious 2025 HIA ACT Southern NSW home of the year award.

This residence operates with the precision of a Swiss watch yet possesses a soul designed to make memories.

On an elevated 1795-square-metre block, the home revels in a commanding position that overlooks iconic Canberra landmarks, including the Brindabellas, the Telstra Tower, the Arboretum and Parliament House.

However, the residence earns its “icon” moniker through more than its vista; it makes a statement of its own through bold geometry, highlighted by daring cantilevered architecture.

Mario Sanfrancesco of Blackshaw Manuka says the synergy is unparalleled.

“There are very few options on high ground in the Inner South that offer such sweeping views,” he says. “When you top that with such striking architecture – you know you have something very special.”

Spanning over 600 square metres under roof and connected by a commercial-grade lift, the interiors are defined by an organic palette of materials – championed by cascata grey marble finishes and Florentine walnut joinery. The main living level showcases a central living, dining, and kitchen hub, as well as a guest and formal living wing. The open-plan core is highlighted by a three-sided marble Ortal fireplace.

The kitchen is a bespoke marvel, featuring walnut joinery and honed marble surfaces, along with a roll call of brand names: a Liebherr integrated fridge-freezer, V-Zug induction cooktop, oven and combi steamer, integrated dishwasher and Vintec wine fridge.

A fully equipped butler’s pantry, complete with a Zip HydroTap, coffee station, oven and integrated fridge, ensures the home is as functional as it is beautiful.

Sanfrancesco says the interiors offer a continuous “wow” factor.

“I’ve seen quite a few prestige homes in more than 30 years of real estate, but I was bowled over the first time I walked through,” he says. “Even after a dozen visits, I’m still finding delightful surprises in the attention to detail in absolutely everything. This home really is next level.”

The upper level houses the primary bedroom suite, featuring a supersized dressing room with a make-up station, and an incredibly luxurious en suite highlighted by a custom soaker tub. There are a further three bedrooms, all with en suites featuring Villeroy & Boch fittings and Brodware tapware.

The lower level is a dedicated wellness and entertainment precinct featuring a cinema with high-end soft furnishings, a gym, and temperature-controlled wine storage.

The amenities continue outdoors with a custom 10-metre heated mineral pool and retractable cover, a six-person spa and a western red cedar sauna. Every whim is catered to by the addition of an entertaining cabana, an outdoor kitchen, and a truly stunning sunken custom fire pit.

“There’s definitely now a sense that a home can offer much more – it can become a retreat, a sanctuary, a place where you can reset and recharge with family and friends,” Sanfrancesco says of the residential market’s trend towards wellness luxuries.

With a four-car garage offering provision for an EV charging station and secure parking for more vehicles, this home is both future-proof and timeless.

Sanfrancesco believes this outstanding home will likely be acquired by a family.

“It will undoubtedly stand the test of time and is definitely one for the generations,” he says.
