NRL star Mitch Barnett leases family home for $1000-per-week ahead of New Zealand debut

NRL star Mitch Barnett and his wife Clare have entered the property market.

The former Newcastle Knights forward, who is joining the New Zealand Warriors in 2023 in a three-year deal, has found a tenant for their four-bedroom Lake Macquarie home.

In the semi-rural community of Garden Suburb, the two-story abode will be leased out for $1,050-per-week.

The two-bathroom family home was listed through Nathan Finney of PRD Presence. Domain’s September 2022 Rental Report reveals the median house price for Newcastle is $570 per week.

According to Pricefinder, the Barnetts purchased the property for $1,045,000 just over a year ago.

The home is modern with an open-plan layout and features a contemporary kitchen with granite benchtops, as well as living areas with whitewashed walls and plush carpet.

There is space for entertaining with a covered alfresco area, yard and pool.

The listing states that the pool will be fenced and tiled prior to tenancy, and that the lower floor study is excluded from the lease.

Mitch, 28, who joined the Knights in 2016, made headlines in March this year when he was banned for six weeks due to dangerous and reckless contact.

The forward raised his elbow to Panthers’ forward Chris Smith’s head during a game.
