A residence originally designed by renowned Canberra architect Gary Willemsen has sold off-market for $3.3 million in Garran.

The property at 60 Brereton Street was extensively reimagined by premium builder Jeremy Binutti, creating a modern interpretation of Willemsen’s distinctive architectural vision.

Hive Property’s Eva Bono said the distinctive residence in one of Canberra’s most tightly held suburbs attracted strong interest.

“Garran doesn’t offer many opportunities, so when a property of this calibre becomes available, buyers respond,” Bono said.

The home was sold to a professional buyer through Hive Property’s off-market network.

The home’s architectural pedigree was a significant drawcard. Gary Willemsen was a highly regarded Canberra architect whose distinctive designs remain sought-after decades later.

The extensive renovation honoured the original design intent while incorporating smart home integration and energy-efficient systems throughout.

The elevated split-level home sits on a 1200-square-metre site and features four bedrooms and three bathrooms, with multiple living zones across two levels.

The top floor houses a parents’ retreat with a separate living area, en suite, and an oversized walk-through wardrobe, while the ground floor includes a guest retreat with its own lounge room, study nook, and en suite.

Living areas capture uninterrupted views of Brindabella Mountain, with north-facing spaces flowing seamlessly into outdoor entertaining areas.

The designer kitchen features Miele appliances, an integrated Liebherr fridge, stone benches and a separate coffee bar nook with a servery to the deck.

Outdoor living centres on a saltwater solar-heated pool with an entertaining zone and timber seating.

Garran’s most recent high-value sale was recorded in November when the five-bedroom house at 26 Flanagan Street sold for $2.37 million.
