Cute Cosy Cottage - A HOME MADE FOR THE WEST COAST OF TASMANIA

With a pedigree dating back to the 1930's and supporting workers on the West Coast Hydro Electricity Scheme, in some of Tasmania's most rugged and challenging location, The Transportable homes were introduced ,inter-alia for an easier transportation to site. The homes were of an Art-Deco concept with a MODULAR DESIGN enabling adjustment of the internal fittings.

To offset the temperature of the site the homes were made very EFFICIENT IN RESPECT OF INSULATION REQUIREMENTS. The double insulation provided kept the internal ambient temperatures at an acceptable level. DURABILITY OF DESIGN kept the maintenance requirement to an absolute minimum due to the external metal screening and metal framed windows with efficient wind proofing. The final criteria were that of COMFORT . Metal clad windows that were draft proof, an efficient Wood Fire enclosed heater that heated the whole house and a building construction that kept 0ut the heaviest rain and storms, yet provided shelter from the sun in the summer months.

Possibly this home was moved to its present site (once described as the "Best Block in Town") in the 50's . Today it sits on one of the most Northerly Sites in Strahan, adjacent to Crown Land, magnificent on-site Gums and spectacular Bird life who turn up almost religiously for their evening meal. The home has been placed in an East/West configuration and situated on the highest point of the land with direct access to the sealed Lyell Highway via a 40 Meter Gravel driveway. The home is attached via RSJ girders and stumps giving it an elevated viewpoint; and place under the building for outside items. (It would one of the very last places in Strahan to experience flooding.)

The original design of the Cottage has been retained but added to with a new metal Apex style roof mounted on top of the original flat roof. Recently a modern Daikon Reverse Cycle Air Conditioner has been installed in the Lounge Room for casual comfort in the absence of the wood fire. Modern flooring has been installed in high traffic areas of the home. Bedrooms and Lounge remain carpeted for comfort and warmth. Purchasers expecting to devote time to being an ardent "renovator" will be disappointed with this property! Instead of labouring over broken boards, decaying woodwork and mending fences, there is just nothing to do, move in, unpack, light fire, drive to the Bottle Shop, pick up your favourite liquid pastime, return, get your feet up in front of the fire and mutter "This is Living. The property also comes partially furnished, making the move even easier!

Features include: Built in wardrobes,Internal Laundry,Pets allowed,Shed,Balcony / Deck,Wall / ceiling insulation
