'modernism is a philosophy that creates a better way of living through design. It improves one's appreciation of design and ecology' William Krisel

My affection for mid century homes and design never tires and l love to find modernism celebrated in our contemporary living.

Neville Ward's house in Goble Street is a gorgeous example of 1960's architecture influenced by modernism.

You could imagine my delight when I was invited to visit 8 Goble Street Hughes and was able to spend time immersed in the beautiful design and space of this mid century modern home.

I had only caught glimpses of the goble.street house on Instagram, and frequently spotted Anne's gorgeous images in 'Inside Out' magazine.

The mid-century home was designed as an ongoing visual dialogue involving all aspects of the interior - architecture, lighting, furniture, flooring- the current refurbishment celebrates and continues this dialogue. Aesthetically inspired by the newly coined 'jandi' style, the goble.street family home is testament to its current custodians and their passion for design and interiors.

Subtle, thoughtful renovations have seen the home remain honest to the integrity of the original design and retained the harmony and balance of the home. A contemporary refurbishment utilises many time honoured materials to define and enhance the space. The current family have shared their passion for modernist design, they felt a responsibility to respect and celebrate the architecture whilst creating a home that is a relaxed and beautiful place to live.

For lovers of modernism, beautiful interiors, mid century modern architecture and life in an established Canberra suburb, goble.street house is one to experience.

To experience such a home in real life is a special thing to share. The form is simple, the design is functional and the aesthetic inspires contemporary living.
