Gracing one of Australia’s most famous rivers, this $2.6 million island home with a private beach is designed to embrace the ebb and flow of life on the water.

The striking four-level house at 52 Riverview Avenue, Dangar Island, is listed for sale. The enviable address is positioned to capture views across the Hawkesbury River, about 50 kilometres north of Sydney.

Dangar Island is a boat-only-access community, with no cars, yet residents can easily reach the mainland thanks to a regular local ferry and their own watercraft.

The three-bedroom home was built in 2002.

Agent Andrew Searle of Belle Property Wahroonga says the home is an unmissable local landmark. “It’s one of those properties that you really notice when you go past in a boat,” he says.

Built in 2002 and comprising warm sandstone, striking steel, and richly toned timber, the natural materials marry with the beauty of the location. The playful blue exterior accents provide a nautical nod.

A private jetty, pontoon and boat house on the sandy beach extend the home’s living spaces out to the lapping waves. The boathouse, which mirrors the main home’s style, will be widely appreciated.

Agent Andrew Searle says the home is an unmissable local landmark.

“You get a lot of artists and writers on the island, and it may suit people who work from home and will use it as an office,” Searle says. “When the doors are open there is quite an expansive view across the water, and that can be enjoyed on the deck or the jetty as well.”

Buyers in the area will note that such an attribute is rare. “A lot of properties on the river don’t have boathouses,” Searle says.

The connection to the water is embedded throughout the design, and life is orientated entirely towards the changing tide.

A spiral staircase is enclosed in a glass atrium.

A spiral staircase is enclosed in a glass atrium, rising from a vast deck, which seems to hover above the shoreline.

Prospective buyers can picture themselves enjoying a red wine in front of the fire in the open-plan living room, gazing through windows that frame a postcard vista of the Hawkesbury River Railway Bridge.

High ceilings conjure a sense of light and air, crowned by timber or finished with curves, which mimic a boat’s hull.

A private jetty, pontoon and boathouse on the sandy beach extend the home’s living spaces out to the lapping waves.

Searle says the house offers more accommodation than a typical Dangar Island home. “A lot of the properties on Dangar are only two or three bedrooms, where this has three double bedrooms, and capacity to increase that to four,” he says. “There are loft areas, too. You can accommodate quite a lot of people in this property.”

The outdoor zones have been carefully tended, spanning meticulous lawns, stone walls and paths that venture through well-established gardens.

Dangar Island has a strong sense of community and desirable amenities, Searle says, near the mainland town of Brooklyn.

“You’ve got a cafe on the island and a bowling club,” he says. “Because of the ferry access, it’s very easy for people to get there, and that is why it has a really nice community feel.

Homes such as this on the Parramatta River are tightly held, the listing explains. The fortunate buyer may wish to renovate the house, which looks out to the Cabarita Marina.
