Calling all wannabe Mavericks – there is nothing like this property on the market near Goulburn in the NSW Southern Tablelands.
Even international aviation enthusiasts have been hitting the phones for the rare listing at 17 Cummins Close, Gundary.
It’s a plane hangar at Goulburn Airport, with a two-bedroom unit where the owner can live.
Agent Levi Peterson of Ray White Goulburn says some prospective buyers have flown in for a look.
“We’ve done inspections and people who have their own aircraft have done flying inspections, bringing their own plane down the taxiway out the front, to really test it out,” Peterson says.
“I haven’t sold a hangar before – they almost never come up for sale in Goulburn. It’s a very rare event, and the last ones that did sell were a long time ago.”
The 340-square-meter hangar doesn’t have to be used for plane storage, so it has flushed out buyers with a variety of ideas.
The response from plane enthusiasts has been strong, Peterson says, but the multitude of uses has prompted his phone to ring with broad interest from Sydney and interstate, including Victoria, and along the east coast.
Overseas buyers are in contention because it is so unusual to find a hangar with an upstairs apartment.
Business operators with industrial properties nearby in Goulburn have also been keen.
“We’ve had people who want a big garage for their car collection or commercial use, and pretty well everything in between,” Peterson says. “If you wanted to run a business out of the space you could, but you can actually live there as well. It’s that flexibility that people really like.”
The concrete and steel construction is solid and insulated against the elements. “Even though some sheds can rust over time, this one will be standing for many, many years to come,” Peterson says. “It’s going to be something that will be an investment into the future, as you really don’t have to do any maintenance.”
The accommodation has its own entrance, enabling the new owner to rent it out separately to a tenant, should they wish, Peterson says.
Two large bedrooms share a central, white-tiled bathroom, with a combined kitchen and lounge space.
A powder room sits downstairs in the sprawling hangar space for convenience.
There is no disclosed price guide, but the vendor is considering offers, Peterson says.
Goulburn is about 200 kilometres south-west of Sydney and has a proud agricultural heritage. Visitors come in droves for art galleries, heritage tours, food and wine, nature walks and the Big Merino – an iconic 15.2-metre sheep sculpture.
