Kmart's cubby house hack craze taking off this school holidays

School’s out and the clever mums on the internet have found a way to pass the time. 

#Kmartcubbyhack has been trending on social media as parents shared ideas on how to pimp the original $199 product.

But not content with the raw timber exterior, DIY-minded parents have been buying the somewhat plain Kmart cubby house and giving it a little spruce. 

The most basic makeovers involved giving the house get a new lick of paint on the boards and trims.

More extensive renos added on a bar leaner, flower pots, door knocker and curtains. 

Pinterest has a minefield of ideas on what you can do to renovate your cubby, but here are some of our favourites:

• Keep it simple with a cute pastel hue for the majority of the exterior and white trims. 
• Give it a statement door by choosing a bold colour and large gold or black numbered stickers. 
• Paint one side of the cubby in blackboard paint to inspire some street art style. 
• Create some little awnings for the front with lengths of timber and a fun fabric. 
• Attach some planter boxes beneath the windows and fill with easy-care plants for your kids to look after. 
• Finish the look off with twinkling fairylights.
