Lefties, feminists, hacktivism and climate change experts. It’s the last week of Julian Rosefeldt’s Manifesto exhibition and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image is inviting a diverse bunch of rabble-rousers to think about the manifestos we need today, for the future.
Rosefeldt’s multi-screen video installation mines some of the violent and vibrant artist manifestos of the modern age. The trick is that chameleon actor Cate Blanchett reads them all while channelling a range of personas.
Blanchett is almost unrecognisable from screen to screen as she impersonates, among other figures, a school teacher, a hectoring choreographer and a scuzzy post-punker.
Since Rosefeldt’s 13 screens explore the manifestos of the past, ACMI has invited six speakers to give short talks on Sunday, March 13, at 2pm, about the relevance and place of the artist manifesto today. The speakers are Clementine Ford, Anne Marsh, Jeff Sparrow, Max Halupka, Amanda McKenzie and Guy Abrahams.
