Ask any buyer what advice they hear most, and it will likely be some variation of “trust your gut”.

For creatives Micaela Mandorff and Simon Brock, this couldn’t have been truer.

The couple had been looking to make a tree change after years spent living in the city. With a “huge radius” and open minds for all kinds of homes, this Oyster Bay home, less than an hour’s drive from Sydney’s CBD, stood out from the rest.

“We just knew,” Brock says. “We were filming our walk-through, and there’s this moment where Micaela turns around with this look of pure joy.”

He says the three-bedroom, three-bathroom property, now for sale, encourages you to slow down and focus on what matters.

“You can feel how loved it’s been,” Brock adds. “The house has a real energy to it.”

Mandorff and Brock loved the feeling of the space so much, they knew not to mess with perfection.

The only changes they have made to the home are cosmetic, including giving it a fresh coat of paint.

“We’ve mostly focused on keeping the home feeling as special as it did on day dot,” Brock explains.

“We’ve added a few interior touches that feel like us, but it’s really been about maintaining the unique charm and vibe of this little slice of paradise.”

The elevated home is perched among the treetops. Mandorff and Brock have loved the way the lush rainforest embraces the house, with palms and natives outside every window.

Their favourite part of the home? The deck, which they describe as the true heart of the home. It’s been the scene of countless gatherings with friends and family.

From makeshift moonlight-cinema nights to the simple joy of a morning coffee, the deck “feels like a sanctuary” and “welcomes you with an incredible outlook”.

Upstairs, the duo have loved creating art and writing music, inspired by the house’s abundant natural light and peaceful feel.

Such experiences have made the home a true escape for the couple.

Its list of features includes everything they remember searching for on Airbnb when, as city dwellers, they sought weekend escapes.

An in-ground pool completes the outdoor zone, while open-plan living areas encourage connection within.

A self-contained studio, with a loft, could also be used as guest accommodation or a home office.

Local markets and sleepy beach nooks make the area feel like a friendly small town, and this private jungle-like resort is within walking distance of local schools, shops, parks and transport.
