Pinterest picks: How to turn those 'pins' into reality

When falling in love with pretty photos of interior decor on Pinterest, two causes of heartbreak are possible. The first is a lack of skill to style your own home in a similar vein, and the second is not knowing where the heck to buy such decor, let alone afford them. We can “pin” away as much as we like, but we’re selling ourselves (and our house) short by stopping there.

2. Mix-matched basket storage

Storage doesn’t just mean hidden containers or boxes that you throw random things into. They’re also a great way to complement your existing home furnishings. Use different sized baskets to store functional items in such as throws, cushions, books and magazines. This is a great way to fill unused space with personal items you’re happy to have in plain sight.

3. Trendy tray styling

Trays are a great way to give a group of miscellaneous items a common link. Gather a handful of bits and pieces that you use every day, such as your perfume and favourite jewellery, and display them on the tray. Add a scented candle to the mix to create a relaxing ambience.

4. Beautiful bed trimmings

When it comes to bedding, the cosier it looks the better. One of the easiest ways to add an extra later of warmth (and style) to your sleeping space is with a faux-fur rug and some mismatched cushions. Swap them out with the seasons or simply add a new pattern or colour to your room when the mood strikes.
