The view here is quite the scene stealer. Through a wall of floor-to-ceiling glazing, this magnificent vista – taking in Pittwater, the escarpment and across to Scotland Island – immediately captivates, temporarily distracting from all else.
Once all that natural beauty has had its moment, though, it’s then time for the stylish reworking of this 1960s coastal haven to rightly claim some of that same attention and shine just as brightly.
Nestled into leafy Bilgola Plateau, in an elevated position above the tranquil waters of Refuge Cove in Sydney’s Northern Beaches region, the brick and timber home at 16 Hansford Parade honours its retro roots while bringing some contemporary chic to the mix.
This is all thanks to the vendors: Nasim Koerting, an award-winning interior architect and design director of hospitality group Merivale, and her husband, Jan, a design strategist.
Koerting spent a decade in London, working with high-end studios such as Hassell and Softroom Architects, before founding Studio Koerting with Jan.
Her latest project, where she headed an all-women team of designers to create Merivale’s late-night laneway bar The Press in Sydney, was featured in the most recent issue of Vogue Living magazine.

Selling agent Veronica Allen from Belle Property Northern Beaches says the pair brought all their design expertise to the renovation of this three-bedroom home, which was largely untouched by previous owners.
“They fell in love with the view and the idea of enjoying sunsets from the balcony,” Allen says. The minimalist architectural style also appealed, and they leaned into that.

Rather than doing a full gut renovation, they enhanced the sunken lounge, exposed and polished the concrete and painted the balcony, railings and window frames in an orangey-red.
“I love what they’ve done,” says Allen. “I love that they were bold in their approach to it, and didn’t hold back on the colours of the external paint. What they’ve done internally was really in line with modernism, and then they’ve added all these lovely touches with their design flair and style.”
The floor plan provides two living zones, a flexible studio space, an expansive balcony, plus a separate entertaining deck, while landscaping adds to the privacy.

Allen sees the property, which has an auction asking price of $2.65 million, appealing to a range of potential buyers.
Less than an hour’s drive from the CBD, it’s ideal as a city-escape weekender and with the beach, shops, schools and direct city transport nearby, it’s also suitable as a permanent home for the next buyer.
The property at 16 Hansford Parade, Bilgola Plateau, NSW, goes to auction at 6pm on Wednesday, November 26.
