If you’re contemplating giving your bed a makeover, why not change things up a bit? A bed without a base/frame/headboard might seem odd, but a nest on the floor can create a pretty spectacular centre piece, if you know all the styling tricks. Plus, it’ll save you a heap of money, and a dreaded trip to Ikea.

1. On the down low

To ensure your lowered bed doesn’t look out of place, lower the entire room’s centre of gravity. Use a low bedside table and framed artworks placed on the floor to help synchronised the space.

2. Beautiful bedding

The bedding you choose can make all the difference. It can act as the key feature that pulls the room together, while providing a welcoming, attractive space for relaxation. Add layers, colours and textures to create interest and warmth.

3. Cushion crush

Scattered cushions propped against the wall can act as a substitute for a headboard and bulk up your styling palette.

4. Balance is key

Choose a colour scheme and stick to it, repeating hues throughout the bedroom to create synergy and calm.

5. Keep it clean

This is a vital tip to follow. Having the bed on the floor means you need to keep things neat and tidy so as to avoid the ‘Just-rolled-out-of-bed-at-midday-and-am-late-for-a-uni-lecture’ feel that this trend runs the risk of becoming. This is not a style for the messy or lazy among us!
