Buyers who miss out on this vintage Sunshine Coast beach house may need to wait years for anything like it, as those in the know prepare to “move heaven and earth” to make it their own.
The property at 16 Cooroora Street, Dicky Beach, is billed as a “once-in-generation” chance to buy into an exclusive waterside enclave, where Tooway Creek meets the ocean.
Only six of the 17 houses on that side of the street have sold in the past 10 years, two in the last five years. The most recent deal was $3.5 million, paid in 2023.
The classic weatherboard, on the creek and just steps from the sand, has been the same family since the 1970s. Three generations have gathered happy memories at the home, listing agent Lachie Woods of Ray White Maroochydore tells Domain.
Incredible views from the verandah span from Dicky Beach to Moffat Beach and the headland.
Woods says this is the type of home that locals know and dream about, and move quickly on if they ever come up for sale.
Woods received up to 30 queries about the house before it officially launched to market.
“About 70 per cent of the properties that we sell on the coast is to locals, and they wait for these pieces of real estate to come up,” Woods says.
“They have their eyes on it, and they try to move heaven and earth to make the purchase work.
“Before putting the marketing online, we had signs up at the front of the property saying that it was coming to market soon. We had 20 to 30 enquiries just off that, and local agents have their own books of buyers who are interested in the place as well.
“It’s definitely a competitive piece of real estate.”
The house is going to auction – scheduled for August 23 – so the price guide cannot be disclosed, in line with Queensland law.
The traditional-style house, on 1070 square metres, has been gently updated, showcasing original VJ walls, decoratively carved arches and handsome timber ceilings.
The four-bedroom floor plan includes two in the main house and two studios with bathrooms. Three living areas bookend the kitchen and dining zone.
An enormous, shaded deck off the living spaces looks over Tooway Creek, where it flows into Dicky Beach.
“It’s really nicely protected from the street and then, over the balcony, you’ve got views across the creek to the ocean,” Woods says.
The property is one of only three on the prized creek side that measure more than 1000 square metres.
The street is peaceful and highly sought-after for its tranquillity and connection to nature.
“Lots of locals in that pocket have been there for probably 50-plus years,” Woods says. “It’s a quiet pocket of the coast.
“There has been a lot of infrastructure and development on the Sunshine Coast as the population continues to grow, so it is nice to know that there are still pockets that are untouched.
“To be one of only three over 1000 square meters and to have views over the creek and the ocean – it is pretty special.”
This top-floor apartment, with only two residences below, has a water-view balcony and a private rooftop terrace. Take your morning coffee with an enviable panorama across the headland.
One of only seven in its building, this apartment has ocean views that will never be built out. Few Esplanade apartments are ever for sale, making this neat two-bedder a limited opportunity.
Ocean and Bribie Island vistas are laid out before this two-bedroom apartment in a complex near cafes and shops. Residents have access to a pool, a spa and an on-site manager.
