A landmark limestone home built in 1887 in Melbourne’s sought-after Sorrento has been treated to a swoon-worthy Mediterranean-inspired renovation.
The home’s owners, who also own Alt Construction, purchased Mosspennock in 2019 and have spent six years renovating the property.
They drew inspiration from European coastal destinations renowned for their stunning sea views and iconic whitewashed architecture to create a luxurious Mediterranean resort aesthetic in the heart of the beachside town.

“The vendors are a close-knit family with Italian heritage, and they have poured their love for Mediterranean-style gatherings into the heart of this home,” says listing agent Danielle Vains from Peninsula Sotheby’s International Realty.
“Their aim was to create a home that radiates warmth and hospitality, blending their cultural heritage with a deep respect for the original history of the home.”

They partnered with Di Bartolo Architects for the project and have retained heritage features including the facade and internal limestone walls, while creating luxurious contemporary interiors.
Set on 1019 square metres opposite the Sorrento foreshore, the five-bedroom home has sweeping bay views from the expansive open-plan living area and rooftop entertaining terrace – a highlight of the property.
Outside, arched colonnades and white-rendered walls surround the self-cleaning pool and spa, creating a private al fresco haven that includes an outdoor kitchen complete with a built-in barbecue, wok burner, bar fridges, dishwasher, Sonos sound system and outdoor heaters for year-round use.
“When the sun shines across that area, it has the most idyllic European holiday feel where you could easily forget you were still in Victoria,” Vains says.
The home also includes a lift, a wine cellar crafted from the original property’s water well, a gym and secure basement garaging for four cars.
Sorrento is a 90-minute drive from Melbourne. Its position on the Mornington Peninsula gives it both sheltered beaches on Port Phillip Bay and ocean surf on the back beach.
Vains notes the town offers a combination of village charm, with plenty of boutiques and sandstone buildings, sandy beaches and a strong property market that continues to attract both lifestyle buyers and long-term investors.

Vains says what sets Mosspennock apart is its foreshore position and proximity to the village.
“Original limestone homes opposite the beach are incredibly rare and transforming one to this standard takes years,” she says.
