It’s hard to imagine that this sprawling, modern property in Farrer was once a pokey 1960s brick house.

The owners were so intent on turning the original house into a luxury estate for their family of five that they had an architect draft plans before they’d even bought it.

“We worked closely with a team of designers to create a family friendly, contemporary entertainers’ home,” owner Tracy Mackey says.

“We essentially left the structure of the garages and built a generous two-storey home atop of them.”

The renovation was completed in 2010 and Mackey says the home’s spacious interior, three living areas, a pool and large garden has provided an ideal backdrop for welcoming friends and family.

“It has truly been an entertainers’ delight. We have had cocktail parties for 50, endless barbecues by the pool, dinner parties for 20, and all easily accommodated.”

The Mackeys moved to Sydney three years ago and reflect on the home fondly.

“It was our dream home. Our three daughters lived in the house and there was so much space for all of us to enjoy,” Mackey says.

“Not a day went by that we didn’t appreciate the setting. There are very few properties with views spanning the Brindabellas, Mount Taylor and Black Mountain, with access to open reserves such as Farrer Ridge in tightly held Farrer.”

The house has five bedrooms plus a study, parents’ retreat, butler’s pantry and a poolside cabana with an outdoor kitchen.

No. 100 Pridham Street, Farrer is for sale through Cream Residential agent Jane Kusetic. Price guide: $1,395,000. EER: 3. Inspect: Saturday, 10.30-11am.
