Eccentric Melbourne IT entrepreneur Danny Wallis is no stranger to viewers of The Block.
With his trademark flat cap, loyal dog Herbie, and erratic dollars and cents bids that send agents and auctioneers scrambling to do maths on the spot, Wallis has been a fixture of the show for years.

His first The Block purchase was back in Season 5 in 2012, when he bought House 2 – renovated by Mike and Andrew – for $1,400,001.01 after several scattered bids.

Wallis then took a break for 10 seasons but returned with a bang in Season 15, when he purchased Mitch and Mark’s house, before going on to buy multiple properties in subsequent seasons.
He made a triumphant return to the winner’s list at The Block Daylesford auctions, buying House 5 for $3,099,999.10. The purchase comes after Wallis missed out on houses in Seasons 19 and 20 – in Hampton East and Phillip Island – after billionaire Adrian Portelli dominated the auctions.

Wallis’ Daylesford property is his 12th purchase on the long-running renovation series, bringing his total spend across six seasons to more than $45.9 million.
These are all the homes Danny Wallis has bought on The Block.
After missing out on Britt and Taz’s House 3, Wallis finally got a win on the board with the purchase of Robby and Mat’s house for $3,099,999.10.
Wallis named House 5 as one of his two favourites from the Daylesford season. “I liked House 3 because it had the good kitchen and House 5 because it’s on the end and no neighbour next door. They’re both nice houses,” he said.
Like his previous purchases, Wallis plans to rent out the property.
Wallis shocked everyone on auction night for The Block’s season in Gisborne when his bidding war with newcomer Adrian Portelli saw him go all out to purchase Omar and Oz’s house for $5,666,666.66.
After going toe-to-toe with the Lamborghini-driving billionaire, Wallis emerged triumphant after Portelli declared, “He can have it.”
The purchase price remains the largest in Block history, netting Omar and Oz $1,686,666.66 in prize money.
Not content with his record purchase, Wallis immediately backed it up at the next auction, buying Tom and Sarah-Jane’s property for $4,100,000.99.
The winning bid secured the fan favourite contestants $20,000.99 in prize money.
Theirs was the only other house to sell at auction on the night.
Rachel and Ryan’s house was passed in on auction night after bidding stalled at $4.05 million.
However, Wallis again emerged triumphant following post-auction negotiations, buying the property for $4,249,000.50, rewarding the Sydney couple with $169,000.50 in prize money.
Wallis made winners of fan favourites Mitch and Mark when he paid $4,044,444.44 for their family-friendly home in Bronte Court, Hampton.
The Sydney couple walked away with $644,444.44, plus the $100,000 winner’s purse, following the auction.
It was the second home the couple had renovated on the show to be knocked down to Wallis, after he bought Mitch and Mark’s renovated terrace in Season 15.
Wallis followed up his winning bid with another knockout, buying Tanya and Vito’s house for $3,800,000.01.
The auction windfall netted the couple $400,000.01 in prize money.
Wallis brought his total spend for season 17 to more than $12.2m when he added country couple Kirsty Akers and Jesse Anderson’s home to his portfolio of The Block houses.
Wallis paid $4,401,523.67. The couple made a profit of $301,523.67.
It took just five bids for Wallis to knock out the competition for father-daughter duo Harry and Tash’s renovated 1920s-style home.
Facing competition from buyer’s advocates Nicole Jacobs and Frank Valentic, Wallis’ knockout bid of $4 million was enough to net him yet another Block house.
Wallis battled bids from buyers’ advocates Greville Pabst, Frank Valentic and Nicole Jacobs to take the keys to Sarah and George’s house.
He intentionally bid against himself by $1, sealing the deal at $4,000,002.
It took just eight bids for Wallis to secure the keys to 362a New Street, Brighton.
Bidding competitively, Wallis bought the property, with its touches of 1930s art deco glam, for $3.8 million.
“The fella who bought it just trumped everyone in one fell swoop,” auctioneer David Wood of Belle Property said on the night.
“He put in a bid that no one else in the garden had the money [to match]. We were left with nowhere else to go but to happily knock it down and our contestants were really pleased.”
In 2019, contestants renovated the rundown backpackers’ the Oslo Hotel on Grey Street, St Kilda, into five sophisticated, modern mansions.
Wallis clashed with auctioneer Damien Cooley on auction night, later calling the process “slow” and “stupid”.
“I’ve never been at an auction where people get five minutes’ think time,” he said.
Wallis paid $3,374,000 for Mitch and Mark’s terrace house at 38a Grey Street, netting the couple $384,000 in winnings.
The first house Danny Wallis bought on The Block was more than a decade ago, when he bought 403 Dorcas Street, South Melbourne, renovated by brothers Mike and Andrew.
The property was the last house to go to auction and was purchased by Wallis for $1,400,001.01, netting the brothers $434,001.01 in prize money.
Wallis made the property available to Ronald McDonald House Charities for use until 2016, when he sold it for $1.73 million.
