Art and architecture have always been natural partners but a new project in Narrabundah is centred around how the two disciplines work together.

Renowned Canberra architect Terry Ring has teamed up with Archibald Prize winner Tim Storrier to design Point to Point, a luxurious four-bedroom house in Narrabundah.

“I’ve always had a love of arts and I’ve collected art over the years,” Terry says.

“Tim is a fantastic artist, when you look at his art it has light and colour and texture. I thought let’s design a house around those elements and try to create a completely different product that’s not out there at the moment.”

Natural light, north-facing living areas and how the home interacts with the landscape were key components of the design.

A rumpus room on the entry level features a viewing window to the in-ground pool that’s set into the main living level above.

Floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of Mount Ainslie, but there’s plenty of space to add your own artwork.

“Art creates such a focal point to a home,” Terry says.

“What we’re trying to do is create a house that has light-filled spaces, while making sure that the light is filtered to certain parts of each room.”

Terry says he usually designs with a client in mind, but this home was designed to be appropriate for a range of residents.

The artistic elements of the design are balanced with practical considerations, such as placing the primary living areas and master suite on a single level.

“It’s designed for people who love art, architecture and the landscape,” Terry says.

Building will start this month and the house will be complete in early 2018.
