A number of strong auction results across Canberra on Saturday has agents predicting a solid season ahead for the property market.
More than 40 people gathered in Isaacs on Saturday afternoon to watch 7 Taplin Place sell under the hammer for $885,000.
All three registered parties bid for the property, with a young, local family securing the home.
Luton Properties Woden agent Anthony McCormack said the family had rented in Isaacs for eight years before buying in the suburb.
“It’s definitely a popular suburb,” he said.
“The turnout we’ve had at opens for this home and others in the area has been very strong.”
The five-bedroom Taplin Place property includes 242 square metres of split-level living. It was extended in 2008 and features an updated open-plan kitchen, meals and family room.
On the other side of town, nine parties registered to bid for a contemporary home at 29 Jeanne Young Circuit in McKellar, with the hammer falling on $780,000. It was sold by Independent Property Group Gungahlin agent Andrew Potts.
A suburb record was smashed in Ngunnawal when an elegant home at 5 Margany Close sold for $1.1 million. There were nine registered bidders.
Luton Properties Gungahlin agent Samantha Hague said there was limited high-end stock on the market in Gungahlin and properties like this one were highly sought after.
Peter Blackshaw Manuka agent Mario Sanfrancesco said strong auction results indicated that the market was set for a good autumn.
He sold 10/15 Dalman Street in O’Malley under the hammer for $1.66 million, which exceeded the vendor’s expectations.
The buyer was also pleased to secure the executive townhouse, which is situated in a tightly held boutique development.
“We’re shaping up to have a strong autumn season,” Mr Sanfrancesco said.
“Not only were the auction results excellent today, but we’ve seen increased numbers at inspections.”
The auction clearance rate on Saturday was 69 per cent, according to Australian Property Monitors.
