Australian professional golfer Cameron Smith has splashed $10 million on a riverfront penthouse in his hometown.
Smith, the laid-back sports star known for his mullet hairstyle, precision putting and rumoured $100 million signing fee, was born and raised in Brisbane.
The multi-millionaire recently parted with $10 million for the penthouse at 5/60 Moray Street, New Farm, Queensland.
The 32-year-old secured the new digs in an off-market deal.
He was among a number of parties to put in offers for the luxury apartment. He secured the abode just two days before it hit the open market.
The sale price equates to around $47,000 per square metre – a record price for a penthouse in the city.
Known for its sweeping rooftop, the luxury pad boasts multiple “entertaining zones” and uninterrupted views of the Brisbane River and city skyline.
The residence is one of only six exclusive apartments in the building, which was designed by architect Joe Adsett and developed by Graya and Frank.
The deal was brokered by Heath Williams of Place New Farm.
The property last sold in October 2020 for $4.3 million.
The 2020 sale was the first time the property had changed ownership in more than 20 years. It was sold in a private treaty in 1994 for just over $100,000.
In the 12 years since turning professional, Smith has earned a sizable fortune.
In 2022 he became the first Aussie to win the Open Championship since Greg Norman. The win earned Smith prize money of US$2.5 million or $3.7 million.
That same year Smith joined the LIV Golf League.
The LIV Golf League is a competitor to the prestigious PGA Tour.
He reportedly secured a US$100 million ($150 million) signing fee to join the league.
In 2024 Forbes estimated his total earnings to be US$47 million ($70 million) – US$43 million ($64 million) in winnings and salary and US$4 million ($6 million) in endorsements.
Smith reportedly splits his time between the US and Brisbane.
He is set to return to Australia next month to compete in the Australian PGA Championship in Queensland.
