Bizarre pool choice sparks heated debate
A home for sale in the US is raising eyebrows after househunters spotted an unusual detail near the pool.
Most swimming pools are surrounded by tiles or concrete – but the owner of this Idaho property opted to break with tradition.
Their indoor pool is bordered by brown carpet that runs right to the water’s edge.
The carpet has been neatly trimmed around a square spa that sits adjacent to the pool.
In fact, the only section of the room not covered in carpet is a patch of grey tiles around the heater.
Social media users were quick to speculate about the possibility of mould and damp.
“I smelled this before I saw it,” one Reddit user wrote.
“Carpet by the pool? Straight to jail,” commented another.
Others defended the surprising choice by suggesting the brown fabric might actually be astroturf, not carpet.
“I think it’s astroturf, which is a cheaper solution to a decaying concrete, brick, or tile floor,” a social media user suggested.
“Safer too! No slipping,” another person chimed in.
The pool is not the only room in the property to feature an unexpected floor covering.
Brown carpet also features in the kitchen, where a low platform raises the dining table above the main floor level.
Elsewhere, the four-bedroom house features a smorgasbord of retro design notes.
Psychedelic red-and-white tiles feature in the kitchen, while the living room is lined with beige shag carpet.
The property is located in the small city of Rathdrum in rural Idaho in the western US.
It comes with 68 acres of dense pine forest in the shadow of a mountain range.
The house is on the market for $US2.6 million ($3.9 million).
