This tropical low-set property drew a crowd of about 60 people to its early morning auction.

Family-on-family action dominated Brisbane’s auction scene this weekend, with family buyer groups beating all rivals to buy three plumb inner-suburbs homes.

Despite a mystery last-minute prospective buyer, a modern four-bedroom home in Hendra in the city’s north-east sold to a young family who beat stiff competition from three other bidders to pay $1.03 million under the hammer.

The tropical low-set property drew a crowd of about 60 people to its early morning auction.

The highlight of the “fast and furious” auction was its unanticipated late bidder, agent Vanessa Harte, of Ray White Ascot, said.

“We ended up with four bidders on the day but hadn’t seen one until the day – this man, who turned up, did his first inspection and 15 minutes later was registered to bid,” she said.

“He ended up opening the bidding at $800,000, which kicked off spirited bidding from the four registered bidders up to $925,000.”

Ms Harte said the vendors called their property on the market at $1 million.

“There were two final bids and we finished at $1,030,000, so this auction had it all: some intrigue, some excitement, a result beyond our pre-auction expectations, and in the end it was all over pretty quickly.”

Ms Harte described the seven-figure sale as “a great result for a delighted young buyer family”.

The property is located close to the airport, schools and the city.

“As spring arrives, this kind of property is in hot demand with family groups looking to move into the area ahead of 2019. We could honestly do with a few more right now,” Ms Harte said.

Families were also the driving force behind the auction sale of a renovated four-bedroom Queenslander on a plumb 822-square-metre block in Toowong, in Brisbane’s coveted inner west.

Its trifecta of “a big block, good location and great condition” caught the eyes of three buying groups, who bid “with intent” to arrive at a sale price of $1.2 million, agent Andrew Degn of Place West said.

Mr Degn said the result was “exactly on par with what we expected”.

“This was a big, flat inner-west block with a modern home, and that’s hard to come by,” he said.

“The vendors had raised their family in the home and it was time to pass it to another family, and that is exactly what has happened.”

Meanwhile, an impeccable double-storey Queenslander on 522 square metres of prime Windsor land north of the CBD sold prior to auction last week.

Due to go to auction this month, “an offer too good to ignore” landed on agent Garry Jones’ table after the first open house last week.

By Friday night, the upmarket resort-style property had sold to a young family for $1.36 million, the Harcourt Solutions Group agent said.

“It was very generous in size with the north-facing backyard and downstairs living with direct access to the pool, and the upstairs deck,” Mr Jones said.

“It really ticked all the boxes for families and, to stop an auction, you really do have to put in a particularly impressive offer – and that is exactly what we saw.”
