Britt and Taz are a married couple from Newman, a mining town 12 hours north-east of Perth.

The police officers, both 30, have two children: Carter and Myla.

Their design style is described as “modern organic luxury”, influenced by natural materials and tones with a resort-like feel.

“I would say we could be classed as amateur renovators,” Taz said.

No challenge is too much for this hard-working team renovating House 3. Britt and Taz have tenacity in spades, making up for their minimal renovation experience.

Week 1: Main bathroom (Equal 3rd)

Despite some obstacles (like having to move their shower head and a tile glue debacle), Britt and Taz impressed judges in their first week on the show.

They loved the couple’s use of neutral tones, but questioned if their organic coastal luxe style would be “Daylesford enough”.

Shaynna praised the placement of the skylight – or “sun roof” as Taz called it – and said the space was “beautiful”.

Marty critiqued the shower layout but fell in love with the French pattern tiles, which Darren adored as well.

The wallpaper was also a hit for its money-saving qualities. Altogether, Britt and Taz scored 24 points, tying with Emma and Ben.

Week 2: Kids’ bedrooms (1st place)

Britt and Taz are doing the show for their young kids: by anyone’s guess, this was the week for them to shine.

After getting feedback in their main bathroom that their style wasn’t suited to the local area of Daylesford, the duo went out on a limb to echo the rolling hills and scenery in the feature wall of the girls’ room.

Darren loved the earthy palette; Shaynna said the room had “a sense of modern country”.

“These guys have got class,” Shaynna said, stepping into the boy’s room. Marty agreed – he said the pair had “hit it out of the ballpark”.

No notes from the judges for Britt and Taz’s kids’ rooms: they won the week with a score of 28.

Week 3: Main en suite (5th place)

After a showstopper kids’ room, Britt and Taz’s main ensuite was not well-received by the judges, landing them 5th place after receiving a score of 21.5.

“Can I be honest?” Marty said. “I feel like I’m sitting in an upmarket abattoir. It’s cold, it’s scary.”

The judges found that half the bathroom was very cramped, yet the other half had a huge wet area that contained two showers and a bench that could fit five people.

“That’s a lot of real estate for two showers,” Shaynna said.

Week 4: Main bedroom (1st place)

After coming in 5th last week, Britt and Taz wowed the judges with their main bedroom, earning first place with a score of 29.

“I travelled in on a cloud, it’s so serene,” Darren said when he inspected the room, a calm beige and gold space.

“This is so far the most marketable, luxurious and easiest sell we’ve seen,” Marty said.

While Shaynna also loved the room, she thought the ceiling paintwork was “terrible” and was not a fan of the upside-down drawer handles in the walk-in wardrobe.

Week 5: Living and dining room (2nd place)

Britt and Taz continued with their organic coastal luxury aesthetic in the living and dining room, wowing the judges and earning them 2nd place with a score of 28.5.

“This house is starting to feel beautifully meshed together,” said Darren, highlighting his love for the wood-panelled ceiling up into the Velux skylights.

Shaynna loved how the stone feature wall and the render on the fireplace all flowed together and complemented the rest of the house.

The room would have been a 10 out of 10, but the judges were not a fan of the lounges facing away from the windows.

Week 6: Rumpus room (4th place)

Unlike the other teams, Britt and Taz converted their rumpus room into a mini gym with two reformer Pilates machines, which did not impress the judges, earning them 4th place with a score of 20.5.

“I wasn’t expecting a gym,” Shaynna said.

Marty added: “Fundamentally, they have just reduced the value of their home.”

The judges liked the concept of the gym, just not in the rumpus room and recommended moving it to the shed in the yard.

“This is a non-negotiable,” Marty said. “They really need to listen to us three.”

Week 7: Kitchen (1st place)

Britt and Taz continue with their organic coastal luxury theme, earning them first place with a score of 28.5.

The judges adored their wood-panelled ceiling, stretching from the living area into the kitchen.

“This is absolutely breathtaking,” said Darren.

He and Marty felt the island bench was too long – 4.6 metres in total – but loved it anyway. Marty believed buyers would rush to this house.

Shaynna said that the room was “country without being hokey” and called it her front runner.

Week 8: Guest suite (5th place)

Britt and Taz scored 19, their lowest for the series, coming last due to an unfinished room.

The two aimed sky-high, planning to create an entirely self-contained space which even included a living area.

While the judges loved the kitchenette, they didn’t love the wall panelling which felt odd and “not as polished” as the rest of their home.

Marty wasn’t sure about the limited wardrobe space and said: “They’ve set it up as a pure weekender. If this was a full-time residence, this doesn’t cut the mustard.”

It was in the en suite, however, that things took a real turn. It started with the sign reading “Room under construction, do not enter”.

Of course, they did enter: they were met with nothing but waterproofing on the walls and a few tools thrown around. Shaynna says she could still see potential among the piles of tiles; Marty said it was heartbreaking as the room could have been a strong contender if finished.

Week 9: Back of House (1st place)

Britt and Taz took the win for Back of House Week, scoring 28 points and earning a perfect 10 from Shaynna.

The judges were unanimously impressed by their consistent luxury style and sophisticated functionality.

The pantry was immediately a favourite for Darren, who said, “This is the best way to handle this space.” The separated laundry was “sexy,” and the mudroom and the “pink on pink” powder room were equally praised for being luxurious and functional.

The team delivered a stunning garage with artwork and dramatic lighting. Shaynna captured their resounding success by saying: “This is the first house today where all three of us are like ‘I’d live here, I’d buy it.’”

Week 10: Al Fresco and Shed (3rd place)

Britt and Taz placed 3rd with 27 points.

Their al fresco deck was praised for having “amenity on amenity” with inclusions like a pizza oven, barbecue and teppanyaki grill.

Marty loved the aesthetic of the space, especially since it was a continuation of their “organic coastal luxury” interiors, calling the deck “perfect”.

The controversy this week, for Britt and Taz, came when judges stepped into the shed and didn’t see a relocated Pilates studio.

Judges found the addition in the rumpus room strange and called it a missed opportunity, not moving the amenities into the shed. In its place, they found a speakeasy with a built-in bar.

“This would be a beautiful Pilates room, look at the view, look at the sheers,” said Marty.

There’s a bigger problem though, which Shaynna catches: she’s not sure the Gyprock walls and ceiling are compliant.

Britt and Taz are certain the Block builders gave it a tick of approval, but Marty is skeptical and says the floor plan is “such a gamble”, it could make the home unsellable.

Week 11: Backyard and Pool (3rd place)

Britt and Taz came 3rd on backyard and pool week. Photo: Channel 9/9Now

Britt and Taz placed 3rd with 37.75 points.

Their backyard was a “wellness” haven, featuring a spa, sauna, ice baths and a chicken coop.

Shaynna was captivated by the huge artificial creek in the yard, calling it a “childhood dream.” Marty, however, warned that the creek drastically reduced the lawn space.

“Wowee, okay,” Darren said as he strolled onto their back deck. He appreciated how the stone fireplace seamlessly integrated the exterior with the indoor living area.

Shaynna summed it up by saying the space “sells the dream of wellness” and that they ticked every box.
