Famed sports commentator Bruce McAvaney and his wife Anne Johnson have sold their Glenelg South home after just 43 days on the market.
The couple listed their home in September and sold it last week, with Johnson telling Domain the sale of the four-bedroom home on South Esplanade was a “great relief”.
“We’re thrilled it was such a short time, otherwise I would have ended up in the looney bin,” she said with a laugh.
“We underestimated how much work it was to ramp it up every time someone wanted to look through the house.”
Though she wouldn’t reveal the exact selling price, she said it was “within the parameters” of their price expectations.
The home, which is just 20 minutes from the centre of Adelaide, was listed with a price range between $2.45 million and $2.695 million.
Johnson said the buyers were a family, wanting to remain anonymous.
“We know that the people will make it another happy family home,” she said.
McAvaney, also known as “Mr Olympics” because of his well-loved sports commentary during the games, and Johnson, a TV producer, are now packing up to move to the Sydney suburb of Paddington, where they will be based for the Tokyo Olympics.
The couple plan to live there for eight months, with their beloved dog Frankie, before returning to Adelaide.
They recently bought a new apartment at new development Ei8ht, also on South Esplanade in Glenelg, which is due to be completed by next year.
The property is the second the couple has sold this year. In March, they sold their New York-style loft apartment in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy for $1.376 million, records show.
