Evidently, there are two things Kanye West and I have in common. We both love Kanye West, and we both have the ambition to reach the sky.
Granted, when he declares it in his 2005 song Touch the Sky, he’s probably referring to his path to fame and using the term as a metaphor for making it big in the music world. My take is a little more literal …
It comes from an architectural perspective and isn’t necessarily about tall buildings – we live in the Bush Capital, after all, and our buildings can hardly be comparable to skyscrapers. But I do love the idea of embracing the sky, and developments like SkyHaus take this concept to new heights (pardon the pun).
Made up of a series of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, SkyHaus has a few references to the sky that extend beyond the name alone. The first is within the central atrium, where apartments from any floor enjoy views toward the heavens.
“The atrium also allows for exceptional cross-ventilation to all the residences,” says agent Sam Dodimead of Blackshaw Projects.
“All entries are set back off the walkway, so rather than the apartment doors sitting directly out to the atrium, there’s a buffer.
“This means residents won’t be deterred from opening their doors because they’re worried about people walking directly walking past. Instead, the architectural design should encourage it.”
The second reference extends to the range of sky terraces. These futuristic homes – somewhat reminiscent of The Jetsons – are perched over the building on levels five and six. They act as two-storey townhouse alternatives, but with much better views, large balconies and plenty of living space.
“Since entering the market just three weeks ago, we’ve sold over 50 apartments and have a limited selection of two-bedroom sky terraces available. All three-bedroom options have already sold,” Dodimead says.
The third reference to the sky is on the rooftop, where residents will enjoy luxurious amenity on high.
Sun beds, brilliant vistas, a plunge pool for hot days, a spa to warm up when it’s cold and a sauna to detox the week away. These are complementary to the gym that can be found on the lower ground.
“SkyHaus has found the perfect balance between amenity and scale, at an affordable price point and without the significant strata fees for upkeep or compromising on floor plans,” Dodimead says.
The apartments are bigger, the floor plans are wider and the bedrooms are segregated, with a high level of inclusion as a standard. Buyers will find 2.7-metre-high ceilings, laminate floorings, Smeg appliances, full-height tiling in the bathrooms and lots of glazing.
Apart from window furnishings, there’s nothing else buyers need to do before moving in.
Dodimead says buyers can have certainty in the demonstrated ability of the developers, Chase Group, who have experience obtained from previous developments.
“I’ve seen a lot of floor plans in this job and, in SkyHaus, people are going to be so comfortable with what they are getting and how they will work in a practical sense,” he says.
Expected completion is mid-2023.
