Florence was names after Australia's first qualified female architect and the first woman to train as an engineer in the country.

When the time comes to name a new suburb, we sometimes look to people who have significantly contributed to Australia in some way shape or form.

Take Canberra’s new northern suburb of Taylor, for example. It was named after Florence Taylor, Australia’s first qualified female architect and the first woman to train as an engineer in the country.

So, when it came to naming an architecturally designed townhouse development in the suburb, Florence seemed most fitting.

“We thought this development was a wonderful way to pay tribute to her,” says agent Matt Shipard of Hive Property.

Designed by Heyward Lance Architects and built by Attractive Building, Florence has been created with contemporary design and timeless appeal at its core.

The boutique development is made up of 10 three and four-bedroom, two-bathroom homes, with just seven left on the market.

And, according to Shipard, they will not be available for long.

“These townhomes resemble some homes we sell in the Inner North for three times the price,” says Shipard. “The quality is supreme.”

Inside, the homes are as stylish as they are functional. Sleek clean lines are complemented by spacious, north-facing living areas. Floor-to-ceiling double-glazed windows allow for ample natural light, filling the home with warmth.

“Imagine waking up in the morning and having your first cuppa for the day next to the window as the inviting sunlight streams in,” says Shipard.

The interiors have been designed by local favourite Dept. of Design and include light and dark colour schemes.

Other luxuries include BOSCH appliances, reverse-cycle ducted airconditioning, floor-to-ceiling ceramic tiles in the bathrooms and plush carpet in the bedrooms.

“Each and every townhome has its own separate guest access – a feature that will provide the lucky owners with a real sense of separation and privacy,” he says.

A sizeable main bathroom offers enough space for morning chaos if you have kids getting ready for school. And an en suite in the main bedroom means you can – for a brief moment – escape the madness and get ready for your day in peace.

Select layouts include an upstairs sitting area and built-in desk, ideal for studying or working from home – a space that’s proving more important than ever before.

Two separate courtyards provide multiple outdoor living options – a play area for young ones, an entertaining space for dinner parties, or a quiet spot for a deck chair, a good book or a glass of wine.

“Situated in one of the premier streets of Taylor, just minutes from the Gungahlin town centre, you will enjoy all of what the local area has to offer,” says Shipard.

“Think great food, great schools, and some of the best parks, cycling paths, playgrounds and shared areas in Canberra.”

Expected completion is mid-2021.
