Courtyards at Bluebell range from 47 to 240 square metres and include a north-facing deck.

For far too long, Canberrans have held the Inner North and South on a pedestal, as the epitome of suburban living in the bush capital.

But as time passes, locals are realising that there are many established suburbs with just as much charm, character and close proximity to the CBD outside of this inner-city bubble.

Take Macquarie for example – a suburb yet to realise its full potential.

“Formed in Belconnen in the late 1960s, Macquarie is one of the three original suburbs,” says agent Graham Bush of Independent Inner North & City.

“The area is progressing in leaps and bounds, with new buyers realising how brilliant the location is and renovating old homes.

“It’s only 12 minutes to the city but it’s also so close to the Belconnen Town Centre and within walking distance to the exciting new Belconnen Fresh Food Market upgrades.”

New development Bluebell will be located at 64 Arndell Street, Macquarie.

Deriving its name from Canberra’s floral emblem, which is found in abundance in the area, Bluebell is the newest development to hit the suburb.

“A similar development in Dickson or the Inner North would be priced upwards of a million dollars. But this is almost just as close to the city and the quality is outstanding, but it is so much more affordable,” says Bush.

The boutique development offers a total of 12 executive three and four-bedroom townhouses, with four already sold after just a couple of weeks on the market.

The homes range from single level to three levels, with differing layouts and flexible floor plans to suit different buyers’ needs.

“Two of the homes are single level with four large bedrooms, two bathrooms and two garage spaces with lots of storage at the back. There is nothing like this on market at the moment,” Bush says.

“Four of the three-level homes also have an optional lift, which is very appealing to downsizers.”

Inside, the homes exude brilliant design, courtesy of Canberra’s award-winning agency Dept. of Design. While three colour palettes are on offer – Dusk, Solstice and Ember – all homes come with timber flooring, wool carpets, tall ceilings and Miele appliances.

Drawing inspiration from its name, Bluebell has a particular focus on beautifully landscaped gardens.

“The gardens have been designed by SPACELAB and will draw particular appeal from green thumbs. They also include lovely hedging and contemporary corten planter boxes,” says Bush.

Bluebell will be at 64 Arndell Street, Macquarie.

“The leafy surrounds blend beautifully with the external design of the homes, which feature KLIP-LOK cladding, face brick, low maintenance timber-look cladding, and Colorbond roofing,” he adds.

Courtyards range from 47 to an enormous 240 square metres and include a north-facing deck – ideal for sipping wine and soaking up the last rays of sunlight after a day at work.

Expected completion is the end of 2021.
