South Jerrabomberra's display village will be open for inspection on September 10.

One of the most highly anticipated new suburbs in the Queanbeyan-Palerang Region is South Jerrabomberra (or South Jerra, as the locals like to call it). The suburb will add significantly to the region’s growth, with 1500 new dwellings and about 4000 residents on completion.

In charge of developing South Jerra is Village Building Co. And with an abundance of community amenities on the horizon, it’s set to be one of the most liveable suburbs in the region.

“South Jerra is like no other suburb in the region. It’s close to three town centres in the ACT and the employment belt of the Parliamentary Triangle to the airport,” says Village Building Co’s ACT region general manager, Jamie Cregan.

“But better than this is the community facilities to be built. The town park, which starts construction in September, is a fantastic facility with a 600-metre-square water splash park, and formalised play areas with a hero centrepiece approximately 10 metres tall.

“There’s a nature play area, a learn-to-ride facility to teach kids road rules (but also for local schools to utilise for excursions with the kids), an outdoor gym, barbecues, an amphitheatre for events, shared pathways and a kick-around space 85 metres in diameter,” he adds.

There’s even going to be an impressive dog park about three hectares in size that will include shelters, more barbecues, an amphitheatre for teaching, facilities for events and dog club operations, and a community orchard and gardens, all within the park.

Plans also include a future slide park and skate park, to be built within the next three years, alongside a BMX pump track, mountain bike trails and skills facility, to follow shortly after.

“Village Building Co has dedicated 23 hectares to Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council for the delivery of the Regional Sports Complex, which is just up the road,” says Cregan.

“This complex will deliver six outdoor playing fields in the first stage with future stages including a 3000-seat basketball stadium and an aquatic centre. Construction of the first stage is advancing and will be operational in 2023.

“We have also donated land to provide the region with the long-awaited Jerrabomberra High School,” he adds.

With the delivery of South Jerra now underway, Village Building Co is officially opening its display village in conjunction with Master Builders Association. It comprises seven homes built by Village Building Co, Metric Homes, Metricon, Achieve Homes, Watt Constructions, Hotondo Homes and Bode by Ram Constructions.

“We’re hosting an open day of our display village on September 10 from 12pm to celebrate South Jerra, our residents and our builders,” says Cregan.

The ultimate goal is to showcase the display homes which have been delivered by prominent builders in the region. But it’s also an opportunity to showcase what has been delivered to date and the soon-to-be-delivered amenity within the estate.

“We have made it a whole-community, free event with multicultural food, activities and prizes for all ages and we are encouraging everyone to come and celebrate with us and discover what South Jerrabomberra has to offer.

There will be kids’ entertainment including a magician, kids’ play village, food and drinks … HIT 104.7 will also be there on the day providing music and broadcasts,” he adds.
