Queanbeyan has been a part of my family since I was born but I’ll admit that, until recently, I completely took it for granted.
My Nonna Rosa has lived there for the past 40 years, and around 15 years ago I distinctly remember telling her that I couldn’t understand why it was classified a city. So, she proceeded to drive me around and point out all the reasons why.
“We have a park, a chemist, a post office …” she exclaimed. Bless her, but of course this did nothing to change my opinion.
However, as the years have passed, and the city has grown, I’ve come to understand why Queanbeyan is a brilliant place to live.
Close to centre of the city are streetscapes even more quaint than you’d find in Canberra’s Inner North or South. Enormous deciduous trees adorn streets filled with adorable weatherboard houses.
The Queanbeyan River is a quaint place for a family picnic or leisurely stroll, two of the greatest retail chains, Kmart and Aldi, are within 100 metres of each other and Civic is a quick 15-minute drive away.
If you’re not already aboard the Queanbeyan train, it’s time you took a trip to its heritage-listed railway station.
The latest development to hit the Queanbeyan property market – and your next opportunity to buy a new home in the area – is The Savoy Collection, with 18 two and three-bedroom townhouses in the heart of the city.
“The name ‘Savoy’ is synonymous with luxury and even though the styling of the development isn’t a replica of the famous hotel brand, it stands out as the most prestigious development Queanbeyan has to offer,” says agent Lucy MacGregor of Ian McNamee & Partners.
“The Savoy Collection throws away the cookie-cutter approach and provides a more bespoke development somewhat similar to what you would find in Braddon or Dickson.”
There is a range of functional floor plans, including two and three-storey options. Three design palettes are on offer for buyers: Bespoke, Urban and Classic.
“Bespoke is for the buyer looking for the extra bit of class and sophistication, Urban is hip and on-trend and Classic features neutral tones and nothing outlandish,” says MacGregor.
“The development also contains an array of high-end inclusions such as flush, woodgrain-finished cabinetry which contrasts beautifully with the subway-tiled splashbacks and stone benchtops in the kitchens.
“European oak timber flooring flows throughout the living areas. The bathrooms are finished with floor-to-ceiling tiles and organic textures of woodgrain and stone, which attribute to a gorgeous, minimalistic and fresh design.”
Amenity-wise, MacGregor says the location has it all, being close to pubs, restaurants and cafes. The Queanbeyan hospital is 250 metres away and major supermarkets are within 400 metres.
Expected completion is late 2021 to early 2022.
