There’s another approach to the Snowy Mountains from its western side where you’ll find the old gold mining town of Tumbarumba.

It enjoys a new kind of gold these days with a great climate for cool weather grapes – and that brings us to Tumbarumba Wines Escape.

This established vineyard on nearly 25 hectares offers a buyer the opportunity to create their own wine label, expand the existing cellar-door business or simply enjoy a gear change into a relaxing rural lifestyle.

There’s more than a hint of Tuscan influence in the homestead with its exposed beams, open fire and terracotta tiles. There’s no shortage of space, either, with four bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Outside, surrounded by spectacular views, are some eight hectares of rich soil under vine including pinot grigio, chardonnay and shiraz grape varieties.

Visitors to the estate are welcomed into a rustic cellar door and function centre that seats 40, served from its commercial kitchen.

Mellisa Meli of Ray White Tumbarumba says the town is popular with wine lovers and boasts several wineries.

“Tumbarumba Wines Escape is a beautiful property that captures the romance of a vineyard – and it comes packed with further potential,” she says.

Meli says a new owner has the option to expand on the existing business and could offer eco cabins or similar, subject to the usual approvals.
