Old and new are thoughtfully interwoven in this alluring 1920s family home in Queanbeyan.
Owners Stephanie and Richard Flemming have strived to reclaim the past, while adding a contemporary twist to enhance the three-bedroom property’s architectural features.
Stephanie says the couple has stayed true to the home’s heritage.
“We had a colour consultant come in and we spoke with a heritage advisor to ensure we were renovating the house in keeping with its 1920s aesthetic,” Stephanie says.
“We went as far afield as Sydney to source replacement glass for the original broken panes and the period fence came from Melbourne.”
The Flemmings, who have owned the property for nine years, changed the original green and gold exterior and modernised the interior, which features a fireplace, hardwood floors, large windows and high ceilings. A revamped granny flat on the property would also make the home appealing to buyers.
The Flemmings now plan to turn their hand to building a modern home in nearby Googong.
“We are stealing a lot of the ideas we love about this house for the new house, that’s how much we have loved living here,” Stephanie says.
