This charming home in Ngunnawal is unlike anything you’ll find in Gungahlin.
“The Brighton” takes its inspiration from Federation-style homes – a contrast to the ultra-modern design synonymous with the region.
That point of difference is exactly what drew Laurel Davies and Morris Greig to the property three years ago.
“We were looking at buying a block of land and building something similar in Gundaroo, but when we saw it for sale in Canberra we had to have it,” Laurel says.
They have since upgraded the three-bedroom home throughout to ensure its interiors are just as enchanting as its inviting facade.
Gone are the blue walls, the blue carpet and the blue kitchen. They’ve been replaced by a neutral colour scheme that allows the home’s architectural details to shine.
Swarovski crystal chandeliers in each room and an antique Maria Theresa chandelier at the front entrance evoke a sense of opulence; however, it’s the property’s warmth and ambience that the couple are going to miss.
“Everyone that comes here for dinner parties comments on the warmth of the home,” Laurel says.
Three covered pergolas overlook the expansive gardens and make the property ideal for indoor/outdoor entertaining. The gardens have been beautifully landscaped and feature a four-person spa.
Built in 1994 as a former display home, it’s surprising that the design hasn’t been mirrored throughout Ngunnawal, but Laurel thinks it’s a sign of the times.
“Back in that era I don’t think many Canberrans were wanting to build that type of home, but since then we’ve seen those old homes in Reid and Campbell all done up and they’ve become more fashionable,” she says.
