A beautifully renovated 1930s house in Reid smashed the suburb record by $400,000 on Wednesday.
The auction of the five-bedroom house at 3 Geerilong Gardens attracted a crowd of 150 people and three registered bidders.
While the home passed in under the hammer, it sold immediately after auction for $2.3 million.
Positioned on 1344-square-metre block within minutes of the city, the house was a timeless blend of old and new.
The classic features, including an open fireplace, high ceilings and cypress pine floors, were complemented with a sympathetic renovation.
Glass bi-fold doors open the family room out to an expansive entertaining area and swimming pool.
Peter Blackshaw Woden and Weston Creek agent Michael Pead said the property received more than 5500 hits on the Allhomes website and strong interest at open homes.
“It’s got those heritage features, but it’s also contemporary,” Mr Pead said.
“The outdoor entertaining area was immaculate with established gardens and the beautiful pool area. It’s just perfect for family living.”
The buyers were a local family of four.
The previous suburb record of $1.9 million was set in 2014 when 25 Elimatta Street sold prior to auction.
That record price was equalled in 2015 with the sale of 18 Dirrawan Gardens.
The sale of 3 Geerilong Gardens not only broke the suburb record, but it was one of the highest sales ever recorded north of the lake.
The inner north record was set in 2011 when 10 Ridley Street in Turner sold for $2.7 million.
In October, a Hamptons-style house, also in Turner, sold under the hammer for $2,425,000.
A suburb record was also smashed this week in the Belconnen suburb of Lawson.
Number 10 Concertina Street sold for $1,255,000 on Saturday, breaking the previous record of $948,000.
One Agency Kippax principal Steve Lowe said there were very few finished, freestanding homes available in the new infill suburb and the quality of the property set a new benchmark for Lawson.
