Murrumbateman is positioned to lead the development of the Yass Valley in 2017 with a commercial hub set to complement the new residential Fairley Estate.
Burgess Rawson has released an expression of interest on 1.54 hectares of land located off the Barton Highway in the NSW village that now has DA approval for a commercial hub.
Managing director Guy Randell says a tenancy pre-commitment from Zierholz Brewery and strong interest from a range of other potential tenants would make the site highly attractive to a developer.
“We’ve had enquiries from a range of businesses and we think a good commercial balance might include a cafe, bakery, post office and the like,” he says.
“A number of developers from the ACT and the Yass Valley have already indicated their interest in being part of Murrumbateman’s growth.”
Mr Randell says access roads and a car park were nearing completion.
“The DA approval means a green light for commercial development and construction could be quickly after the infrastructure is completed,” he says.
“There’s also approval for a children’s park with play equipment and amenities.”
Burgess Rawson earlier leased a 115 place childcare centre site to the YWCA. Construction work has begun and is scheduled to be completed mid-2017.
“This is going to be a very welcome addition for the parents of some 50 children per day who currently have to leave Murrumbateman for childcare services in Canberra,” Randell says.
Meanwhile, ACT builder Geocon will soon begin construction of a new 52-room Abode hotel, a project the Yass Valley Council estimates will increase tourist accommodation by some 30 per cent.
It will enable a larger number of tourists to stay at the historic village rather than have to travel to Canberra for accommodation.
Geocon managing director Nick Georgalis says a major goal for its hotel – the first outside the ACT – is to fit into Murrumbateman, both aesthetically and in a functional sense.
“The hotel will feature a large, flexible foyer space and public area that can be used for a range of activities and will complement the local area,” Nick says.
Murrumbateman is the second largest centre in the Yass Valley local government authority and one specific objective is to maximise community and economic benefits by promoting Murrumbateman as an equestrian, wine and food destination.
An estimated 11,000 vehicles travel daily along the Barton Highway through Murrumbateman.
