Eagle-eyed househunters have flagged concerns over an unusual set of stairs in a London bedroom.
The stairs are located on the top floor of a two-bedroom flat in Brockley.
A long, narrow hatch opens a few centimetres from the end of the bed, allowing access to the lower floor.
A set of steep steps is just visible at one end of the hatch.
Househunters on Reddit expressed concern about the location of the floor hatch, noting the absence of a safety railing.
“A gaping hole in the floor can’t meet building regs,” a user commented.
“If they want to live with that that’s their mad choice, but to put it up for sale without railing it first is just wild,” wrote someone else.
Many househunters speculated that the danger would be heightened after a couple of drinks.
Another user countered, saying: “I’d be falling down that sober no problem.”
Steep stairs aside, the bedroom appears sunny and pleasant with a built-in cupboard and space for a small desk.
A second single bedroom, currently fitted out as a child’s room, is located on the lower floor.
On the same floor, there is a living room with a Victorian-era fireplace and a newly renovated kitchen.
The flat is located in the Brockley Conservation Area, which is known for its historic architecture and good transport links to central London.
“Set to the top two floors of a handsome end of terrace Victorian townhouse, this two bedroom share of freehold home offers bright and stylish accommodation,” the listing reads.
“Gorgeous stripped and polished floorboards are a theme.”
The property is on the market for offers over £500,000 ($1,035,000).
