When Jenny and Ryan bought an abandoned house in Wales, they had no idea what was in store.

The UK couple bought the dilapidated pink cottage on the island of Anglesey on a whim earlier this month.

While searching for a renovation project, the couple spied the 1970 house up from auction just down the road from where they lived. They popped by to take a closer look.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t get in because no one knew where the keys were,” Jenny told North Wales Live

Nevertheless, they put in a “cheeky offer” of £200,000 ($395,000). It was accepted.

When they managed to see inside the home, they discovered it was full of junk.

They revealed their astonishing finds in a series of now-viral Facebook videos.

There was a giant gargoyle, an hourglass filled with sand, a chess board, lots of crockery,  old newspapers, kids toys, and even a set of false teeth.

“Sadly, the previous owners had fallen ill and the property had been empty for at least a couple of years,” Jenny told the media outlet.

The couple had been told squatters had been using the property – a claim that helped explain its derelict state.

Jenny and Ryan have started clearing the property, with weeds and tonnes of rubbish already in the skip.

“It’s very overgrown and there’s a lot of junk and rubbish around this place, but give us a couple of weeks and it’s going,” Ryan said in a Facebook video.

Luckily, the pair have a good sense of what the house will look like when the renovation is completed – they found photos from 2005 that show the property in its former glory.

In the photos, the house sits in a manicured garden with a neatly trimmed lawn.

The interiors were warm and cosy with vintage furniture, picture frames and big arched windows.

The couple plan to continue documenting their renovation journey on social media, with the hope of monetising their content to help fund the massive project.
