The skull, while presumably made of plastic or plaster, is an eerie sight in the near-empty house.
The only other signs of habitation in the living room are a chest of drawers and a handful of DVDs.
The two-bedroom cottage is located in Camborne, a Cornish town that sits a few kilometres inland from the sea.
Once a bustling tin mining town, today Camborne has fallen on hard times.
Traces of the area’s industrial past remain in the rows of worker’s cottages and brick chimney stacks.
The house with the mysterious skull is a traditional miner’s cottage with the living room on the ground floor.
Through a doorway is the kitchen, which is in a poor state of repair.
Tiles are missing from the splashback, rust coats the electric stovetop and black mould is sprouting on the ceiling.
There are two bedrooms upstairs, each with peeling paint and stained carpets.
The toilet is located in a small room off the verandah.
The listing by Stratton Creber notes the property is “in need of complete refurbishment”.
In 2023, Cornwall Council granted the owner planning permission to improve and extend the cottage.
Six neighbours lodged objections to the proposed changes. Several expressed concern a third bedroom could put pressure on the street’s 100-year-old sewage system.
The cottage is for sale via auction for offers over £90,000 ($185,000).
