From the outside, this house for sale in England looks like any other barn conversion.

But take a closer look and you will discover a secret airport hiding in the backyard.

Nestled between rolling hills and rows of oak trees is an aeroplane hangar big enough to hold a light aircraft.

There is even a 300 metre grass runway where avid aviators can land their own private planes.

The property is located in Udimore, East Sussex, a small village in rural England.

A brochure from agents Equus Country & Equestrian notes the airstrip is a sloping ‘altiport’ style and landing can be limited by weather conditions.

Despite the limitations, the owner and pilot stated the airstrip operated for 23 years without a single complaint.

“Currently the land is used for a private airstrip (short take-off and landing) suitable for flying light sport and microlight aircraft and with an aircraft hangar and agricultural barn, but also general enjoyment by the current owner,” the brochure reads.

Prospective buyers are warned they must not arrive for a property inspection by plane.

“Interested parties must visit to inspect the airstrip layout by foot prior to flying in,” the document emphasises.

The property has a Certificate of Agreement in place with the UK Border Force.

As well as an airstrip, hopeful buyers will also have a comfortable three-bedroom heritage home.

It is a traditional Sussex oast house – a type of agricultural building once used for drying hops to make beer.

Inside, original timber beams are a reminder of the building’s centuries-old history.

Large windows have been added upstairs, offering “the most fantastic views across the garden, air strip, pasture and valley below”.

The house sits on 12.5 acres of land, including a vineyard with 100 grapevines, and an orchard that includes cherry, apple, pear and cobnut trees.

The property is set in the Tillingham Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

It is on the market with a guide price of £945,000 ($1.97 million).
