Eleven grand terraces have been snapped up in a coastal village in the UK.

The Georgian-era properties neighbour each other along Lonsdale Terrace in St Bees, Cumbria, in northwest England.

The terraces were sold ahead of a planned auction on Saturday. The properties were listed with a £550,000 ($1.1 million) price guide. The final sale price is not yet available.

The 11 houses fell into disrepair after the school suffered financial difficulty in 2015.

Billed as a “tremendous residential investment opportunity”, the terraces were last used as boarding accommodation for St Bees school.

The once all boys school, where British comedian and actor Rowan Atkinson was a student, was founded in 1583. It became co-ed in the late 1970s.

The school momentarily shuttered its doors in 2015 due to financial difficulties.

During the downturn, the houses fell into disrepair, according to The Daily Mail.

There were two reported attempts to revive the terraces and the street, with developers showing interest.

The street of 11 terraces.

Planning was granted to subdivide the street and create 10 spacious houses of varying sizes and two flats, the listing reads. But a rebuild never eventuated.

The school reopened in 2018, however, the houses failed to survive.

‘It’s terribly sad to see them fall into such disrepair in recent years and I think everyone in the village would love to see someone buy them who has the ability to return them to their former glory,” Neil Bennington, a member of St Bees Parish Council, told the media outlet.

‘It’s an amazing opportunity for someone because they could end up buying an entire terrace for a relatively small sum and being able to sell them individually as superb family homes.”

The terrace houses were last used as boarding house accommodation for students.

The terraces were sold through Auction House.

“Some work has been started. Interested parties should make their own enquiries to Cumberland Council regarding planning,” the listing reads.

Today, the school’s boarders stay at School House, a facility located on the school grounds.
