Get to know Emma and Ben – a married couple from Melbourne, Victoria, competing on The Block 2025.
We’ve gathered everything you need to know about the House 1 team, so you can follow their progress and weekly scores all in one place.
Emma, 33, is a pole dance teacher with an activewear clothing brand.
“It’s such a great workout,” Emma says. “The students are anywhere between 13 and 70, and everyone comes together, it’s amazing.”
Ben, 32, is an engineer and aspiring firefighter. He has been accepted to be a firefighter, but postponed this in favour of appearing on the show.
Ben has also done stand-up comedy, which might come in handy in one of the challenges this year.
The duo applied for the show seven times and say their style is “mid-century modern with a twist”. Together, they are renovating House 1.

Every week, this page will be updated with Emma and Ben’s room reveal results.
Emma and Ben started strong right out of the gate, scoring 24, which saw them tie for equal 3rd with Britt and Taz.
Shaynna loved the “spa vibes” emanating from the curved green basins and the choice of texture. She disliked the vertical towel rails.
Marty liked the layout but questioned the craftsmanship behind the curved nib wall’s messy finish. Darren called the bathroom a “cracker” and said their renovating experience showed.

The high-school sweethearts looked to the past this week, creating the kids’ rooms they would have loved themselves as kids.
This strategy seemed to pay off, as Emma and Ben almost won with a score of 25.5, but they were beaten by Britt and Taz.
Marty loved the girl’s room in particular, calling it “very marketable” and “special”. The high-level finishes across both rooms stood out to Darren, but for him, the bed placement blocked the wardrobe, which he didn’t deem practical.

Despite being dumped by their plasterer, Emma and Ben moved past that and created a standout maroon-hued main that wowed the judges, scoring 28, which earned them 2nd place again.
The judges loved the ensuite’s Western feel. Marty called it “bold but not tacky”, and Shaynna said it embraced the “boldness of Daylesford.”
However, the lack of downlights cost the duo the first-place spot, with all the judges feeling that it was an oversight for a bathroom.

Emma and Ben continue their second-place streak, scoring 28 for their burgundy main bedroom.
Darren loved the double skylight and the use of different wood types, but found the room lacked sophistication due to the tacky bed styling.
However, Shaynna loved the burgundy hue throughout the room, and said they made a “beautiful, modern den – and nailed it”.

Emma and Ben failed to impress the judges this week and dropped to 4th place with a score of 22.
Darren hated the layout, pointing out that the lounge chairs faced away from the floor-to-ceiling windows and the beautiful scenery.
“Where’s the luxury?” asked Marty. “Why have you gone so off-course in the most important room in the competition?”
Shaynna loved the four Velux skylights the couple used, but aside from that, she found the entire space underwhelming and was disappointed in Emma and Ben’s design choices.

Emma and Ben continue their streak of barely missing out on first place with a score of 28.
The judges were blown away with their rumpus, saying it was everything they wanted from last week’s living and dining room.
Shaynna loved everything about the room – the colour, the floors, the art, the wallpaper.
“There is nothing I would fault in their selection,” she said.
Marty wished the rest of the house reflected the vibe of the rumpus.

Emma and Ben not only impressed the judges this week, earning a score of 26 for the kitchen reveal, but have also completely redone the living and dining space.
“I know it’s kitchen week, but oh my goodness, they have saved this house,” Shaynna said after seeing the updated living area.
Darren loved the pale timber and cream colour palette, and Marty believed the kitchen would have beautiful pictures for the Domain listing challenge.
The only issue the judges had with the kitchen was the fridge’s location, which was next to the bedroom door. Darren suggested that Emma and Ben move it to where the wine fridge is.

It’s been a week of wins for Emma and Ben: not only did they win Guest Suite with a near-perfect score of 29.5, they also won the Domain listings challenge.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Shaynna said as she walked into their suite. She loved the amount of storage space allocated and praised the space for its consistency with the rest of the home.
The judges loved the sage-green tiles, copper sink and tapware in the kitchenette.
“It would be hard for me to leave this space,” said Darren. He called the guest en suite a “little gem” and the judges unanimously agreed that Emma and Ben nailed the layout here.
Marty also said the bathroom would shoot well for their listing – only on Domain – with little details like the tips of trees showing through the Velux skylight.
The only flaws (losing them that half point) were some shoddy ceiling work where a false wall was put in; glass that wasn’t aligned in the shower; and missing paint on the door.

Emma and Ben finished in 5th place, scoring 22 points.
The judges were confused by their overall lack of functionality and poor layout, noting the pantry was too far from the main kitchen.
Marty felt the combined laundry and butler’s pantry showed a lack of planning: “It seems like there’s no strategy to the way they’ve planned this room.”
The mudroom was described as basic and not luxe enough, lacking the necessary wow factor Marty said buyers would expect.
Their saving grace was the powder room, which was praised as being lovely and cosy, with judges saying it “feels like stepping into a jewellery box.”
However, the garage was a miss: despite being styled with a vintage car, it was empty and barren. While Shaynna loved the look of the light-coloured floor, she went on to say it was impractical for the dusty roads of Daylesford.

Emma and Ben finished in 4th place with 26 points.
Having the most elevated house of all the teams, the duo knew they needed to capitalise on this with stunning views in the space.
This approach was a hit with judges, who loved the heater and electric blinds won in a challenge.
Marty called the area highly sellable, saying: “From a marketing perspective, it’s pretty hard to fault.”
Shaynna, however, found the heavy black styling “pretty blokey”. Their Stratco shed was arguably built for the blokes, with a tool area and golf simulator which Ben took a risk in adding.
The niche choice was backed by Marty who called it a “good strategic move” geared towards a certain type of buyer.
Darren liked the consistent colour palette from deck to shed, but said the couple should have found a way to close the shed skylights to block light interfering with the simulator screen.

Helped by the bonus point gnome, Emma and Ben came 1st scoring 38.5 points and narrowly beating House 5.
Their backyard made the most of the house’s elevation and was praised by judges for its relevance to the Daylesford environment.
Marty was very impressed with the overall design, saying: “I think this will be one of the hardest houses to beat, in terms of how relevant it is to the natural environment.”
Their integrated wine cellar was also a hit, with Marty calling it the “perfect chess move” to boost the home’s value while competing with Robby and Mat.
Darren loved the couple’s use of solar panels for the pool cabana roof, for its sustainability and execution. Shaynna points out minor faults with their printed tile wallpaper, but ultimately doesn’t seem too bothered by it.

Of the teams, Emma and Ben have the most experience renovating homes, with three flips under their belts. They bought their first home at 24, drawing inspiration from Ben’s aunt, who has been flipping houses her whole life.
