When you think ‘starter home’, a multimillion-dollar waterside house probably doesn’t spring to mind.
But a quirky pink house in one of New Zealand’s most expensive streets is being marketed as just that.
Houses on Rawene Avenue can fetch up to $20 million.
The Auckland street is a favourite with celebrities and richlisters, who come for the bay views and stay for the top-tier amenities.
The house at 9B Rawene Avenue is a bargain in comparison.
It is listed with a registered value of $NZ2.35 million ($2.14 million) – just one-tenth the price of its neighbours.
“In most people’s books, it’s expensive, but it is an entry-level property for Rawene Avenue,” agent Tina Gao told OneRoof.
But the property comes with a catch.
The tired 1990s house looks like a construction site on the inside.
There are massive holes in the living room ceiling that leave the timber battens and insulation exposed.
Electric wires dangle from the ceiling and walls.
Gao believes the property will be bought as a demolition project for buyers who are keen to secure a foothold in the neighbourhood.
The three-bedroom, one-bathroom house is located just 200 metres away from the water.
The listing bills the house as an “exceptional opportunity” to break into one of Auckland’s most sought-after neighbourhoods.
